Salida and Buena Vista anchor the Arkansas River valley, a high-desert hub with one of Colorado's longest riding seasons. The Arkansas Hills and Methodist Mountain trails above Salida dry early, while the Midland and Whipple trails near BV climb toward the Collegiate Peaks. Sage and decomposed-granite soils shed water fast, so the dirt is good more often than not.
