The Triangle spreads its riding across Umstead's bridle trails, Crabtree, Harris and the newer Briar Chapel network toward Chapel Hill. It is Piedmont clay under mixed hardwood — gently rolling rather than steep, with punchy creek-crossing climbs — and like the rest of the region it takes a day or two to firm up after rain. Close-to-town riding that carries a lot of daily traffic.
